Image Description

It is a condition in which the fat and breast tissue in the breast area in men develops more than normal.

It is observed in men as a result of the increase in the estrogen hormone found mainly in women. Common factors include:

  • Unhealthy diet
  • Foods with increasing hormones
  • Genetic factors
  • Hormonal changes
  • Sedentary lifestyle routine
  • Diseases that require the use of hormone-containing drugs
  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Puberty
  • Aging
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Kidney and liver disorders

This problem can be addressed in 3 different types:

  1. Growth of breast tissue similar to a woman's breast. The growth is not very serious. No sagging or loosening of the skin is observed.
  2. Growth of breast tissue due to increase in fat tissue. Generally, sagging and loosening is not observed.
  3. Both female breast tissue and fat tissue growth are present. This type also has sagging and looseness.

The majority of gynecomastia patients present with the third type of disorder. Patients are first consulted by an endocrinologist to diagnose whether there is a hormonal disorder. If the cause is not hormonal, surgical method is applied.

The exact content of the operation is decided by the specialist and the patient together. The operation is performed using general anesthesia. If there is only excess fat tissue, liposuction may be sufficient. However, if breast tissue has formed along with excess fat tissue, vaser liposuction may be applied. Depending on the level of gynecomastia; if the person also experiences sagging and loose skin, a more comprehensive procedure is performed to remove excess skin, revise the nipples, and provide complete correction.

Endoscopic Technique: Only a one-centimeter incision is made under the breast skin. Excess fat and breast tissue are removed. Liposuction support can be used depending on the fat ratio.

Open Surgery: Preferred for third phase patients. Removes excess fat tissue, breast tissue, and excess skin. The nipples are reshaped as needed.

While the surgery performed with the endoscopic method leaves a very small scar, the incision scar is a little larger in open surgery. The incision scars may be more noticeable, especially in people with densely hairy chests. When only the liposuction method is applied, there is almost no scar. However, these methods can provide suitable results for patients in the first or second phase. Open surgery is required for the third phase.

Depending on the patient's condition, it may vary between 1 and 2 hours.

There is no need for hospitalization after the procedure. The patient can be discharged after resting in the hospital for two or three hours. Wearing a chest corset after the surgery is definitely recommended in order to positively affect the results of the procedure. It is important to use the chest corset regularly for three weeks. After the third week, the use of a corset will be sufficient when doing heavy activities, to the extent determined by your doctor.

Swelling and bruising may be observed after the surgery. These side effects are felt intensely in the first three weeks and will then decrease over time. The breasts take their final form after 3 months.
