Mini Facelift Scars: How to Minimise Facelift Scarring in Turkey

Does a mini facelift leave scars?

Like any surgical procedure, it is possible to have scars after mini facelift surgery. However, the visibility of the scars is directly related to the technique applied by the surgeon and the care given to postoperative care. In our practice, the incisions are carefully hidden in front of the ear or at the hairline. In some cases, incisions are made on the ear's curved surface, and after the procedure, they are put together like a puzzle. These folds perfectly house the suture marks. In this way, the scars lose much of their prominence over time.

How to Minimise & Hide Your Facelift Scars

Unlike some European surgeons, who prefer straight incisions in front of the ears, we opt for techniques that prioritise concealment. We take advantage of every possible natural curve to hide the scar.

Mini facelift surgery reduces the risk of scarring because it involves minimal incisions. Nevertheless, with the right care and precautions, it is possible to achieve a much smoother result by minimising scar visibility.

Proper dressing and suture care

It is very important to keep the dressing dry and clean within the first 24-48 hours. Do not interrupt the dressing change with the antiseptic solution or sterile saline solution prescribed by your doctor.

Removing your stitches on time ensures that the scars remain in the thinnest line. Although dissolvable stitches are generally used in mini facelift, the recommended time for stitches that need to be removed is 5-7 days.

Silicone based products and gel treatment

Silicone gels or patches help soften and lighten the scars by promoting collagen regulation in the skin.

Apply the procedure regularly for at least 6-8 weeks, between 12 and 24 hours a day, usually from the second week after the stitches have been removed.

Sun protection

The newly formed tissue is very sensitive to UV rays. Always use sunscreen with a protection factor of 50 to avoid exposing your incision directly to the sun.

If you are going to be outdoors for a long time, wearing a hat or a wide-brimmed fedora also prevents the scar colour from darkening.

Proper nutrition and hydration

A diet rich in protein, vitamin C, zinc and antioxidants accelerates wound healing.

Drinking at least 2-2.5 litres of water a day supports tissue regeneration.

Limiting smoking and alcohol use

Nicotine restricts blood flow, which slows skin healing and increases the risk of scarring.

Since alcohol also negatively affects the healing process, it is beneficial to avoid it as much as possible in the first 4-6 weeks after surgery.

Light massage and physical activities

After your doctor's approval, fine circular massages increase tissue elasticity and reduce stiffness.

The aim is to give the scar tissue a softer and smoother surface, so apply with gentle movements without pressing hard.

Keep your follow-up appointments and follow your doctor's recommendations.

Evaluate the scar follow-up in detail with your doctor at the follow-up appointments at the 1st, 3rd and 6th months.

In case of an unexpected colour change, crusting, or non-union, contact your surgeon immediately.

By following these steps, you can ensure that the mini facelift surgery scars remain the thinnest and faintest. The correct care process is as key to success as the surgical performance. If you have any concerns about scars in the future, remember to always stay in touch with your surgeon!
